Aug, 2003 : Netcraft: Red Hat Market Share Could Change

📅 August 20, 2003 - Red Hat (redhat.com) is currently the most widely deployed Linux distribution, according to Netcraft's (netcraft.com) August 2003 Red Hat Linux distribution survey.

According to the survey, Web hosting companies with the largest exposure to Red Hat Linux are rackshack.net (rackshack.net) with 131,326 active sites, Rackspace (rackspace.com ) and Interland (interland.com -> networksolutions.com) with 57, 852 and 57,130 sites respectively.
Netcraft said the Linux distribution share is likely to change because Red Hat has recently made significant changes to the licensing, pricing and support of its Linux distribution. Hosting companies are beginning to reconsider which Linux distributions they should run as a result, and hosting automation vendors are also checking into the alternative distributions and operating systems their customers are considering.
