😠 Worst hosting site on the net. Absolutely no customer support, I could not find a real person, a good phone number or anyone that actually runs the site. When asking for help on live chat they refer you to different departments and then that department refers you back to live chat, just a run around. No help, no customer service, high prices after they get you, they make it easy to use their site builder and then you cannot move your site since the site builder belongs to them, so you get stuck with their service or your site is locked. They will lock up your site of shut it down and then not tell you why. My site was shut down several times and then after countless emails and chats, a week or two later it would come back up with no explanation or reason for why it was down. WORST HOSTING EVER, you will be sorry if you use them.

😁 Free plan - Their control pane. is very good and much more flexible than other webhosting sites I've tried.
I could upload industry specific file types which incurred an additional cost at other hosters.
It's never been down anytime I've logged on.
Being a novice at building a website, I've asked some pretty dumb questions, which were answered in a reasonable amount of time via email

(3*) 🔧 Services: Website Builder
⇔ Redirected from freewebs.com
Webs.com is now a historical / inactive website-builder and web-hosting brand. The old webs.com platform no longer works as an active hosting service for new customers, and the domain redirects into VistaPrint, part of the wider Cimpress group. The original Webs website-builder platform was discontinued in 2023, with the final migration deadline set for August 31, 2023.

The brand started in 2001 as Freewebs, founded by brothers Haroon Mokhtarzada and Zeki Mokhtarzada in Silver Spring, Maryland. It became one of the better-known early freemium website-builder platforms, especially for small businesses, personal websites, clubs, community groups and non-profit projects. A notable early fact is that the founders initially invested around $1,000 each, and the first servers were operated from Zeki Mokhtarzada’s apartment before the platform reached a much larger scale.

In December 2011, Webs was acquired by VistaPrint for $117.5 million, bringing the service into VistaPrint’s small-business marketing ecosystem. Around that period, Webs had served more than 40 million customers worldwide, had millions of active users, over 100,000 paying subscribers, roughly 20,000 new users per day, and around 50 full-time employees. Later company profiles placed Webs in the 51-200 employee range.

Webs was not a traditional cPanel shared-hosting provider. Its main product was a hosted Website Builder, supported by free and paid plans, templates, custom domain usage, mobile-ready pages, password-protected pages, web store features and an in-house editing interface. The broader Webs ecosystem also included Pagemodo, focused on Facebook page and social marketing activity, and ContactMe, used for basic contact and customer-management workflows.

Paid plans removed Webs branding and unlocked stronger business features. Higher-tier packages included unlimited pages, more storage, premium templates, ecommerce tools, custom email addresses, SEO Booster, search-engine submission and unlimited web-store items. The platform was practical for users who wanted a fast website without managing databases, FTP access, scripts or server configuration.

💰 Price & Cost

Webs historically followed a freemium model. The free plan was limited and carried Webs branding, while paid plans added business functions and removed platform branding. Older plan levels commonly appeared around $6.99/month for Starter, $14.99/month for Enhanced and $29.99/month for Pro, usually depending on billing term and package type.

The lower paid plans were suitable for basic websites with a custom domain, while the more advanced plans added more storage, stronger ecommerce limits, premium templates, SEO tools, custom email options and broader support access. The Pro tier was the better fit for business users who needed unlimited storage and larger online-store capacity.

Accepted payment methods included major credit and debit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and PayPal. Legacy paid plans included a 30-day money-back guarantee, which made the service relatively low-risk for small businesses testing the builder.

After the 2023 retirement, old Webs pricing no longer applies as an active service. Website-building activity moved toward Vista x Wix, while former Webs/VistaPrint domain and email subscriptions were transferred to Exact Hosting.

🏢 Data Center

Webs operated as a fully hosted website-builder platform, not as an infrastructure provider where customers selected server regions, operating systems, network carriers or dedicated hardware. The company was based in Silver Spring, Maryland, and customers used the managed Webs platform rather than choosing a data-center location themselves.

The service was suitable for simple business websites, local projects, personal pages and small ecommerce stores. It was not designed for advanced hosting requirements such as VPS, Dedicated Servers, Colocation Hosting, root access, custom server stacks or enterprise infrastructure control.

Older Webs terms connected the service with an 80% uptime guarantee, which was weak by modern hosting standards and far below the 99.9% or 99.99% levels usually expected from serious web-hosting companies. Since Webs is now inactive, that historical uptime guarantee has no practical value for new customers.

✍️ Customer Support

Webs previously offered support through phone and email, with additional communication available through social channels such as Facebook and Twitter. A FAQ/help area covered common account, billing, builder and site-management issues.

Support quality depended on the plan level. Free users had more limited access, while paid customers, especially on higher-tier plans, had stronger support options, including phone support. This structure was common among freemium website-builder platforms, where the free tier served as an entry point and paid accounts received better service access.

After the platform retirement, the support path changed. Former Webs domain and email customers were moved to Exact Hosting, while website-builder replacement activity moved toward VistaPrint’s Vista x Wix solution.

🔨 Control Panel

Webs used its own in-house web-based control panel and visual website editor. It did not rely on cPanel, Plesk or another standard hosting panel. Customers managed pages, templates, galleries, blogs, ecommerce items, SEO tools, domains and account settings from the Webs interface.

The main advantage was simplicity. Non-technical users could create and maintain a website without handling server administration. The main limitation was platform lock-in, because users had less technical freedom, fewer export options and fewer advanced hosting controls than they would have with WordPress hosting, conventional shared hosting or VPS hosting.

🎯 Conclusion

Webs.com was an important early website-builder brand and one of the larger freemium hosted-site platforms of its generation. It worked well for small businesses, personal sites, community groups and beginners who needed an easy way to publish a website without managing hosting infrastructure.

Its strongest points were ease of use, ready-made templates, branding removal on paid plans, ecommerce features, SEO tools, custom domain support and a simple in-house control panel. Its weaker points were limited technical flexibility, platform dependence, restricted portability and an uptime guarantee that was not competitive by modern hosting standards.

As an active provider, Webs is closed. The original platform was retired in 2023, websites had to be migrated by August 31, 2023, and the old domain now redirects to VistaPrint. Today, Webs remains useful mainly as a historical reference: a major early website-builder platform that grew from Freewebs, reached millions of users, was acquired by VistaPrint for $117.5 million, and was eventually replaced as the market shifted toward newer website-builder ecosystems.

Daniel Burns & Team: Thank you very much for your hard work and attention to detail. We are extremely happy with the design, layout, and functionality of the site. You were able to turn our short description of a vision into a beautiful, live environment that we love and gives starving musicians a chance to get the money they deserve! The team was very responsive and easy to work with… and I am happy to refer family, friends, and strangers to your company. Keep up the good work!
