NIC.PY, the Network Information Center of Paraguay, was established in 1995 following the initial guidelines suggested by the Internet Society (ISOC). These guidelines advocated for domain delegation to be a collaborative effort between two institutions and recommended that domain names be delegated under the second level, such as .com.py and .org.py. Consequently, NIC.PY was formed as a joint organization between the National Computing Center (CNC) and the Digital Electronics Laboratory (LED). This commitment by the two institutions was officially recognized by ICANN and formalized in the "Responsibility Framework" document in June 2009.What is NIC-PY?
NIC-PY is the administrative and sponsoring organization for the Top Level Domain (TLD) .PY, which is a two-letter code assigned to Paraguay according to ISO 3166-1. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) delegated these tasks to NIC-PY, which was later ratified through the Accountability Framework signed between NIC.PY and ICANN. NIC-PY is responsible for maintaining the .PY country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD).
NIC.PY Functions
Domain Name Servers: Maintain and operate name servers for the .PY domain.
Zone Information Updates: Generate and disseminate updates to the .PY zone information to authorized secondary servers.
System Interoperability: Ensure the continued and stable interoperability of the domain name system on the Internet.
Constituent Entities
The domain name delegation service is provided jointly by two institutions:
LED (Digital Electronics Laboratory): Responsible for the administrative contact and approvals of domain delegation requests.
CNC (National Computing Center): Acts as the technical contact, handling the administration and operation of the DNS servers.
Rates
The cost for the delegation of a new domain and its renewal is G. 160,000 (one hundred and sixty thousand guaraníes) annually.
Payment and Receipt
Proof of Payment: Once payments for delegation or renewal are made, the money receipt will be available within ten (10) business days if the payment was made through any of the electronic mechanisms.
Collection of Receipt: The original receipt can be picked up from the CNC/NIC Perception Office from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. A scanned copy will be sent to the domain contact addresses via email.
Billing Contact: The receipt will be issued with the data provided for the domain’s billing contact.
NIC.PY continues to play a crucial role in managing Paraguay's top-level domain, ensuring its proper operation and alignment with international standards and local requirements.
