NIC Costa Rica is a non-profit organization and an independent unit of the National Academy of Sciences. It is responsible for managing and providing .cr domain names and the subcategories .co.cr, .fi.cr, .or.cr, .sa.cr, .ed.cr, ac.cr and .go.cr.The unit is governed by the standards of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), which guarantees absolute fairness and transparency in the assignment of names under .cr.
The main objectives of NIC Costa Rica are to promote the sale of its domains and facilitate and promote the development of the Internet through the contribution of innovative technologies and active participation in the different sectors of the country. For this, NIC Costa Rica develops projects at a national and international level.
