Jun 9, 2008 : Israel.com Sale Reports Found False

moniker.com logo📅 - Domain auction house Moniker (moniker.com) has been working to correct false reports that domain name, Israel.com, sold last week for $5.88 million.

On Friday, the WHIR published a report of this sale. This weekend we received an email from Moniker informing us that this was, in fact, incorrect and the domain name is still for sale through its website.

In the email, Moniker's Ana Cano writes:

"Please note that Israel.com has not sold, but is still available via sales@moniker.com or http://www.moniker.com. There have been a number of false reports out there from earlier this week and we have been working to correct them all."

The rumors were reportedly triggered by one of two Israeli news websites, possibly TheMarker (http://www.themarker.com) or Haaretz (http://www.haaretz.com).

When the publication saw the reserve price of $5.88 million in last month's Moniker silent auction -- one of the highest priced domains during its T.R.A.F.F.I.C EAST show in Orlando -- it assumed that it was a winning bid price for Israel.com.

There were also rumors circulating that the domain name found a buyer before the auction but the sale fell through after the seller, Joel Noel Friedman, had stated that the buyer had to be pro-Israel.

The live domain auction brought in about $2.5 million in premium domain names, while the silent auction drew a total of over $3 million. The highest domain name sale went to DomainRegistration.com, which fetched $376,480 in the silent auction.
