I've at servage been customer for 16 months now... I have to admit the servage offer a really good webhosting plan!

It's really cheap and gives you lots of space and bandwidth, but does that mix very well?

When I first got to servage I looked a bit around on the website. I Found that they used a own control panel (which shows the menu even when you're not logged in).

The only thing I hope hope for was that it was good as there is no demo panel where you can see the features of it.

Next thing I did was reading the TOS/AUP:
"Customers are able to use 120 Gb daily totaling 3600 Gb in a normal 30 day month. A 28 day month provides 3360 Gb transfer and a 31 day month will allow a total of 3720 Gb transfer." (when i did read the TOS the limits where lower, but this was increased over time)
This seems all really great, but aren't there any other limits?

"Adult content is allowed as long as all models are at least 18 years of age and the material is otherwise legal."
Even Adult content is allowed!

After looking at reviews there wasn’t really any reason to not get hosting there. 1 evening (20:30..) I finally ordered an account. I had enough money on my paypal account to pay for it. After a few minutes it was all setup. Even the domain name was
ready the next day.

I logged into the Control panel and started to discover all kind of awesome options.
You can turn on or off “PHP Safe mode”(Default: On), “PHP Safe mode GID” (Default: On), “PHP acceleration”(Default: On) and “.htaccess”(Default: Off) for each Vhost.
(Vhost is a subdomain in this control panel!)
.htaccess is really needed to make custom error pages (You’ve got a nice guide how to do that in the FAQ) to replace the 404 error with servage logo.

These Vhosts have lots of options. You can point them to whatever directory you want, but you’ll need to make it using ftp or the file manager first.

The online File manager has improved over time. It now includes “.htaccess protection”.
In other words: Password protected folders, you can also make symbolic links and extract zip file in the File manager!

You’ve got several Anti-spam system which you can turn off and on!
“Active Anti-spam (Validating)”, “Greylisting” and “FMX” can turned on for each domain. However this cannot be controller per email account.

You also find a area where a fiddle with the DNS zone as necessary. You can use this to make your own ftp hostnames and mail hostnames. You should use ftp.servage.net/mail.servage for everything. In this area you can also add domains.
Servage allows unlimited add-on domains so you can host multiple sites on one account
This control panel even has a script installer for beginners.

Also a FAQ and helpdesk are integrated in this panel. You can request help from a support teams using a ticket system. This support team is really helpful and replies really quick.

There are some things lacking in this control panel though. There are no detailed statistics and with the clustered system there are also no logs!

There is also a lack of adequate cron job configuration, these can only be daily or monthly which is useless for most applications. Proper unix style (or equivalent) configuration is required.

There are also no backup options. This is somewhat understandable given the plausible size of an account, but some sort of backup creation / restore ability is vital. The MySQL databases can be backup up, either by control panel or PHPmyadmin

No anonymous ftp and no shell access. These are missing for security reasons. They also block UDP traffic for this same reason.

Servage has a very limited money back guarantee. Servage only has a 5 days back guarantee. In this time I didn’t notice some poor performs. Mysql is sometimes slow or has connection issues.

Download speeds are rather slow. I've got 2 server on which I could test Download speeds.
I’ve tested the download speed on a server in the UK (quad-core, 4GB RAM, 100Mbit connection). The result was: 502KB/s
I’ve also tested the download speed on a server in Germany (Dual-core, 2GB RAM, also 100Mbit connection) The result was poor: 375KB/s
My home connection did have 300-500(500 = maximum of my home connection).. speeds depending on time.
This is not everything! When downloading a big file, you’ll notice it might stop downloading in the middle of the download for no reason. However for a site without any big downloads this is no problem. Servage has had nearly no downtime. They did maintenance once and that is the only downtime I’ve noticed.

The last thing worries me most. The TOS and AUP do not contain all limits. Limits such as MySQL database queries are not told but they are there! A support team member told me: “Yes, we have some limitations, but not like need to mention because it is enough for running a big big site in servage.”

It is a great service, but I do warn you. People(I know several) have be disappointed by the host and I am 1 of those!
