iPage Borders on Credit Card Fraud

iPage borders on committing credit card fraud. I have carefully set my accounts to only manually renew (set them NOT to auto-renew) for two years in a row and yet iPage has automatically charged my credit card to renew hosting services for each year. I have then had to call iPage staff to ask them to refund my card. The iPage staff never seem to care about the problem and the card does not get refunded. I have then had to call back a second time to finally get my money back for the services I did not intend to purchase in the first place. This means that iPage is charging a credit card that they DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE for services that the client did not agree to purchase.

In addition, iPage uses deceptive practices to make it appear that consumers are receiving a cheap service when in reality it is expensive after the first year. They do this by offering VERY inexpensive services for the first year and not advertising anywhere that the prices will go up by roughly 14 times the second year (roughly $8 for the first year and $107 for each subsequent year). They don't overtly lie to consumers, but rather omit information that would be critical to understanding the whole picture. Most reasonably people will assume that the advertised price is more or less the continuous price unless it is mentioned that it is a "first year special price" or a "discount off the first year of service". The page probably says in fine print somewhere that prices may change, but I am not a stupid person and I have never been able to find it. Ergo, most average people like me probably will not see it.

The bottom line is that iPage appears to either be HIGHLY inefficient in their billing and credit card processing systems or to be leaving errors in their system that may generate additional income by auto-charging people unawares. They are then not very responsive to requests for correction of the problem. Last, the initial driver of the problem was that iPage increased their prices by 14 times in one year, causing me to decide not to renew my service in the first place.
