Hobohost sucks!

4 months as customer on hobohost floor plan. I use uptime monitor to monitor the downtime of some sites hosted there and for past 4 months without fail, there will be at least 3-4 outages per month that last on average 2 hours. One even lasted 4 hours. Well, I did not make noise. Come one day, I found that access to my websites are either sluggish, took extremely long to load or returning 508 error. Sent a ticket and the reply was most impolite and dismissive and simply push the fault to me, claiming that a wordpress vulnerability for past FEW days had throttled my wordpress sites and insinuating that it was MY fault for overwhelming their servers LOL! Conveniently ignoring the fact about the frequent and extensive outages for PAST 4 months. I had dealed with many hosting before. I can tolerate performance lapses, but not atrocious customer service. Sucks big time!

Over the past few days we have been being hit by Wordpress Brute Force attacks causing a substantial load on the server. These are directed at accounts that do not have any security around their wp-login.php page from these attacks. You can read more about them here:

Please secure your installations if you have any. You can see the full resource usage for your account under the link in the metrics section of cPanel. I see that you have been hitting the entry process limit 1,365 times in the past 24 hours. Having monitors for your site can cause spikes in this usage, as well as cronjobs or brute-force attacks as I mentioned before. I'll slightly raise these limits, but it is quite clear your account has been being throttled which would make the monitor believe they are down. Please take steps to protect your Wordpress login pages so that you aren't contributing to a heavy load on the server and maxing out your resources available. Right now, this server is running smoothly, but we are still going to be upgrading some of the hardware in the next few days.


No response was ever made by the customer to work with us on this issue other than the review here.
