I want to share my bad experience with hivelocity.
I need a backup server for my remote backups so I need a dedicated server form a reliable provider.
I ordered Xeon Quad-Core X3220 2.4GHz: server on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 and paid with my Credit card. I done my all verification process and on Wednesday, July 01, 2009 I got my server.
I just ssh on said date to check server is online and then I logout because I was very busy in those days.
On dated 03 Jul 2009 08:00 I want setup my new server for backup and I try to ssh but I can't. I contact Live chat and they told me your server is offline please open a reboot ticket.
This is my first downtime I got after 1-2 days of server setup even I was not touch any thing in server.
I open a reboot ticket and then with 30 minutes my server was online and hivelocity can't give me a reason why my server was down even I have not hosted anything.
After this I have started setting up this server for backup use An I was shocked to see that I have ordered and paid for Xeon Quad-Core X3220 2.4GHz but this server was Core2Quad CPU Q6600.

Hello,

Your server is running at 1600mhz due to cpu throttling, when your servers load increases the full 2.4ghz clock speed will be displayed. The Q6600 and Xeon X3220 are nearly identical processors. If you are still not satisfied with the CPU that is in your server I can check our stock for the X3220. as a Q6600 was more than likely substituted due to a lack of X3220 cpu's on hand.

We do not have a X3220 Xeon on hand. The Q6600 that is as I said nearly identical as a Xeon X3220. If you are not satisfied with this chip I can offer you a free upgrade to a Q9300, your CPU clock speed is due to throttling. I have tried to login to your server but it seems you are no longer running ssh on port 22. In regards to compensation or any other billing requests please contact billing as we can only offer you technical support.

Why you not offer me Free Nehalem Quad-Core E5504 2.0 Ghz if you not have required?
Why reverse not forward?
If you can Free upgrade to Nehalem Quad-Core E5504 2.0 Ghz then ok otherwise forward this ticket to billing for refund.

I did not read throughly, as I was told on chat, that you were discussing the prices. I did not see where you stated that you got the wrong processor and was not aware of this. I do have a Quad Core 2.66 in stock, and we can have your server upgraded to that processor. Let me know if you would like to proceed, so I can let a tech now, or we can reduce the pricing. Above are the downtime dated when I have not hosted a single KB.
Now below is the downtime when I have hosted some sites/VPS.
I think HV is reliable so I have hosted my WHMCS on this server so I can provide support my clients in case on my servers down on other datacenter.
But I was wrong as my servers on other datacenter which i think was not reliable not down even a single time in 4 month.
A hosting provider can think what will be the bad impact if a main site of host is down?
Now see the downtime below after hosted some sites, Most time it was suddenly e.g. I was connected to ssh load is below then 5 and suddenly down.

I have contacted several time to give me the reason why my server down again and again. I have checked my server log there was no issue found.
Also HV admin check my server log but can’t find anything and still to date they cant give me any reason.
Now I want to share a one more horrible experience with HV
on dated 29 Aug 2009 my one VPS is DDOSed and can you believe not only my server was down the whole rack was down which shows they not have firewall even on network level and instead on help me the open a abuse case on me.
Can incoming DDOS is a king of abuse by me???

Please note, if your server continues to received ddos attacks we will terminate the server.The Last horrible experience.
I have read several bad reviews about HV about terminate server without notice.
As per my opinion most dedicated server clients used dedicated server for shared/reseller or VPS hosting. And such abuse/spam is the issue all over the world.
Even yahoo, gmil etc also face this issue.
If big companies with lot of admins can't solve this issue how a small or medium Host can solve?
The terminate server is not a way.
HV can easily handle this issue by just blocking port 25 instead of terminate the server and give time to client to solve issue.
As I am also a shred/vps provider on every downtime I think HV terminate my server. But thanks GOD its not.
Due to such issue I have cancelled my server on dated 29 Oct 2009 the HV was willing to give me $50 credit if I don't cancel, But I want to sleep at night so I cancel my server and I remove my all credit card detail from my client area.
On dated November 02, 2009 10:50:52 AM they got my detail from old record and charge my Credit card. Which is unauthorized.They looks like scam to me
The HV is only authorized charge card which is on billing account.
But the HV slogan is only "MONEY is The Best Policy"

In my opinion:
- They have a good support response but they are not providing good support
- HV has not server standard hardware.
- Don't use Credit Card to prevent SCAM.

So please stay away from hivelocity if you are Shared/reseller or VPS provider and want to sleep well at night
