So far I have no complaints with Green Geeks hosting. The control panel is full of features and fantastico is jam packed with free software. I have experienced no down time or server slow downs, since opening my account. PHP has a lot of extentions installed, all housed on an reliable Apache OS server. Mail server is reliable and so far have had no downtime in that area either.
My only real beef is the signup process was a pain.
I signed up at 8am, was told I would get a confirmation email and a telephone call to confirm my account. Since my email stated I could call them to confirm, I decided to go ahead and get a jump on it and call them at 9am EST (when they open). So, I called them, confirmed my account and was told it would be 30 minutes to an hour for the site to come online. Got on the live chat help after 2 hours (because my site was still offline) with a customer rep (which my wait time was less than a minute), voiced my problem, and was told my question "had been escalated to the concerned department". The rep did not offer a reason why it was taking longer than I was told, I did ask "Is there a problem with my account" and the response was "No, No problem". 3 hours (in total) later the site finally did come online.
I am big on deadlines, and if someone tells me 30 minutes to an hour, that is what I expect... if they would have said 2-3 hrs I would not have had a problem, but such was not the case.
If I told you I would pick you up at your house in 30 minutes to an Hour and I showed up 3 hours later you would be slightly miffed I imagine. What if I was driving YOUR car and you did not know me all that well.
For this I deduct 1 star.
Pros:
Reliable Servers
Fast servers and FTP
Does not use bait and switch pricing, clearly states that prices per month are for yearly subs, before you get to checkout (on features page).
Green Host (Eco-Friendly)
Cons:
Activation process took longer than they said it would
If you are looking for a reliable host with customer support then you cannot go wrong with Green Geeks. Just be sure not to expect them to turn your site on within the time frame they give you. All in all a good host and I will continue to use them until that changes.
