GreenGeeks is the worst hosting I have ever come across.

I am so sorry I ever switched to GreenGeeks hosting. I run a dozen websites myself and paid top dollar for hosting and had several hosts. I wanted to combine all my websites onto a single server and thought why not get a reseller account and sell one to me and resell the others to cover my hosting costs and make some money too. I loved the idea of green hosting.

I signed up with GreenGeeks at the seed reseller level. My plan was to move my websites and begin selling hosting and increasing my reseller plan as my customer base grew. I spent the first month transferring all my operations over to their server. Then just as the 30 Day money back guarantee ran out all heck broke loose. I had 7 websites transfered and completely operational when out of nowhere hackers started taking down each and every site. Over the course of a day every website was completely deleted from the server. Support was of little help. they just gave out canned responces and claimed that my PC had to have been hacked. I assured them i was no idiot and there was no hack on my PC. After several canned emails followed by even more displeasure in my responces they finaly determined that someone hacked their service and planted a 404.php file that gave them access the the file system. How did it happen, well this is where i learned that they have their systems set for wide open access to anyone who can get to php. That they only way to chmod files was through their file manager inside cpanel. And that every file was set to 755 and writable by php by default.

So after starting from scratch on the website transfers, i get locked out of my own webhosting reseller account. Why? because my IP reached the secret limit of data any one IP could transfer in a single month.. WHY???? I thought it was unlimited bandwidth? More canned responces. And they whitelisted my IP. But now what about my customers and my visiters? more canned responces.

Then comes my first customer.. They upload their website and away they go. Two weeks later, their site gets hacked. Someone planted some paypal phishing code on it. My customer gets an Account Suspended screan and some email from GreenGeeks about it.. I'm like WTF? What are you doing conversing with my customer? .. long story short, my customer wanted his money back. A weel later his site was back up someplace else. Wonder who has him now?

I did a web search on the greengeeks IP that all resellers use. I found thousands of websites that had been hacked while using that IP.

Next comes the error.log files all over my directory structures. Seems some root access had gotten to their systems php install. Somehow some php modules got deleted and everyone got errors because blahblah.so was missing from the server. How that happens is easy. Either a drunk server personnel screwed up or they got hacked on the root level. Either way, I had to tell them after weeks of ever growing error logs that they where missing some files.

Then yet again my account got closed for over transfers on an unlimited bandwidth plan. They just don't get what unlimited means.

Then they transfered to cloud servers, had some down time as the installed new hardware but all in all it went well. Only ever since my websites get 404 errors at random. My openX ad server errors at least 30% of the ads it tries to serve. I've been online with them and get ... you guessed it ... more canned respences.. I'm like fix it dude. You know i'm not the only one with the issue..

Still waiting..

I was in heaven for thirty days, then it just feels like for the next six months that the entire reseller plan is determined to see to it that i never succeed. I no longer offer web hosting from my webhosting business because I have zero faith that my customers will get even subpar hosting from their datacenter. Not a single website, be it mine or one of my customers has gone 30 days without some kind of major catastrophy from GreenGeeks taking them completely out of service.

It is the absolute worst hosting company on the planet. It's no wonder their unlimited reseller plans start at $19.95.. It's not even worth that. What good is a website that always has major issues staying online.

For the record, these websites they claim get hacked because of everyone else but them, have been online since 2005 under various hosting and not a one ever got hacked before they moved to GreenGeeks.

I think it's them doing most of the mischief on purpose and i told them as much.

The issues faced by this customer no longer occur as we've made numerous improvements to our server hardware and network architecture.
