I have been a WinHost basic since 02-28-2015; however, there were many unsuccessful attempts to connect to the it, many of which, whereby, all the passwords I used didn't work. Also, there were times when I tried to reset the password according to the WinHost instructions unfortunately there were numerous failed successes.
I am currently in contact with several tech support personnel that continuously give me advise, but each attempt to connect to the web server has been a failure.
Additionally, I tried to connect to it using the filezilla client which was also a failure. It has been a very frustrating experience to say the least.

Terrible billing and support practices-WARNING!
I have been hosting two sites with winhost.com and it was awesome... until you need support or you have a random issue with billing.
I had NO problem paying for hosting as it's a cost of doing business.
One day one of the sites I hosted here was gone!
I contacted support. Of course, there's nobody to talk to and they hide behind "tickets" which are generated online. They don't let you call and talk it through with a support person. I've left several messages. They closed my support ticket. I opened another one and have yet to be contacted back about it. In the meantime I am scrambling to find and recover some backups and point my records to a temporary server so my users can have access to their site again. I still have NO resolution as to where my site went! I looked into the billing. I noticed a "credit" for "non payment"... I checked my cc records and show that winhost successfully charged my account for the hosting. I have yet to hear back from billing or support. I [read more...]

We're sorry that the account was canceled. We try to contact everyone whose account is past due to arrange payment, but at some point we have to assume that it isn't going to be renewed, and the account goes to cancellation.

I see that we did pull site backups for you though and sent instructions for re-establishing the account.

Yesterday, our website was disabled due to a threat noticed by WinHost. We had no idea how or why this happened. The WinHost support team emailed us about the issue immediately. When we were able to address the problem, the quick response and suggestions made by the team were easy to follow and very helpful. We got back up and running without much delay! I highly recommend this proactive level of customer service to anyone considering WinHost as their service provider. I've never experience such speedy responses in all my 16 years of working with website service providers!

I was with a different service for several years. The other service provided "OK" service for one of them but the performance of the ASP.Net one (on which I'm building an application) was spotty at best. Most recently they had a major systemic failure and my web site was (once again) unavailable most of the time and flaky when it was available. All I really wanted was the thing to work as well as it did on my localhost, but was constantly being told the problem was at my end.

Switched to WinHost because they highlighted the ASP.NET/SQL Server capability. Works very well. Took me all of an afternoon to move everything over but once I had, everything works better than I had hoped. Nice work.

Amazing and Patient Customer Support
After banging my head against several brick walls I realized that the best help was probably right at my fingertips. I created a support ticket that barely outlined my many issues and was quickly informed of the steps to take. I faltered along the way, creating more problems for myself and them. I've used WinHost more than once to host a website. The ease of use, customer service, control panel are just a few things which really made using this hosting company a pleasure. For the basic features I needed, the price was right, and very intuitive control panel and other interfaces were perfect for a novice or experienced user. Reminders for continuation of service come in plenty of time before your renewal, and discontinuation of service is easy, with no high pressure sales pitch pleading for you not to go. I would highly recommend this hosting company to anyone looking for an easy solution for hosting their own site.

First and only windows host I would choose.
Price/quality ratio for this kind of service is perfect. I had some problems, but they were clearly explained in the FAQ section, except for one problem, but I got blitzzlike response for solution at some of their social pages.

If I need windows hosting in the future, I will choose winhost again.

Definitely recommend. Was simple to set up an FTP connection from visual studio using .NET MVC 4 and push updates to the site in seconds. Didn't have to do much configuration on my end, and the site came out looking like it should every time.

biggest plus is the performance and reliability, rock solid.

feature set is better than most. I miss awstats though. smarterstats is 'ok'

biggest downside is that you can really only host 1 top level domain per account, but this ensures top notch reliability on a shared server.

I tried WinHost after I hosted with other Windows providers in the past. As I was migrating my website, I had a couple problems and the support team came back to me in less than an hour.

The support team knows about Windows Servers and ASP so they could identify the problem quickly and even pointed me on the right direction through some links. Not automatic answers (they even sign the tickets with their names). In my experience, it is not easy to find good Windows hosting providers with a support team that knows Windows and ASP environments well enough.

So far WinHost is willing to help and advise you on how to handle a code issue. If you are looking for a hosting company with good support, WinHost may be a good choice!

Do not use this company. I used them for about 4 months until I decided to switch. I had to pay extra for another database which I agreed to thinking I could set up a Stage Environment for my application. They do not support subdomains even though they will tell you different. Just to setup stage it took me > 10 hours and it was still unstable. My clients have been complaining that they haven't received email notifications.. I tested some mail code and sure enough, randomly a lot of them would never be received. No help from support on this.

WORST EVER!
The hosting is decent, the control panel is a JOKE.
You cannot remove services or plans after you have say more than 1 domain or site in your account.

In my case I had 1 site that was paid up for a year, still have 6 months left of it, I didn't want another site and didn't renew it so in retaliation they limited my 1 year prepaid account and unless I paid for the other site I would have to "calm down" and get over it basically.

If you are hosting 1 site then they are probably ok, but if you host several sites, they will abuse you should you not want to keep all of them and there is no option to remove them.

Dealing with customer service is fun fun, they treat you like dirt because they know you aren't going to be paying into them anymore. They won't even half read the tickets you submit and it makes you have to send WAY more emails than needed to make them have a clue as to what is going on.

Great Hosting Service for Windows
WinHost provided an excellent Windows hosting service. I looked at several other companies who either didn't have the space or the support to allow me to install my Kentico development sites and databases.

I was able to get them up quickly and the control panel worked very well.

Their support assisted me in record time with a few issues I had working with their system in the beginning and I had no other problems afterward.

I've been using winhost for various projects over the past 3 years and I'm very pleased with their service.

The reason I didn't score them a perfect 10 is that emails sent through winhost sometimes take several minutes to send and on rare occasion hours. This is sometimes an issue as my site verifies new account emails through and email verification process.

One other thing that seems missing (or maybe I haven't discovered how yet) is the ability to have automatic backups of my database.

Similar another post, I write database driven sites using MS Access and MS SQL as data storage. Some hosting companies seem to have a problem with Access, others charge SQL by the MB (seems to be normal business practice). There is really no way to use Access in medium trust environments especially when it is not changeable. Same with File I/O in the same medium trust scenario. Winhost provides an extreme flexible environment for a fair price. I have several domains running and never experienced any problems. Setup was a breeze.
At first I was skeptical about the support, but in turned out to be a pleasant surprise in terms of turn a round time. What I experienced from some other popular hosting companies in the trouble shooting department was almost pathetic.

Piss poor Customer Support
I havent been able to get onto my site for over two months because their system doesn't recognize my user name and/or password. Customer support with WinHost is non-existant. Over a month ago I went through their standard correction process "if you lost your password give us your email address and we will send you an email (if the email is in their database). Well long story short I still haven't got any emails from this Hosting Site. So! my email address isn't in the system either. (God I am thankful I printed out all the site information when I first signed up with these jokers.) I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSTING SITE. I RATED EVERYTHING ONE BECAUSE I HAVE NON OF THESE SERVICES SINCE I CAN'T EVEN GET ON MY SITE WHICH IS PAID FOR ANNUALLY. BEFORE I TRANSFER ALL OF MY HOSTING TO A SINGLE HOSTING COMPANY, I HAVE LEARNED A LESSON WHICH I RECOMMEND TO ALL. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A REAL PERSON YOU CAN TALK TO ABOUT THESE ISSUES THAT JUST EAT UP YOUR MONEY AND TIME.

It is not unusual for a customer to lose his/her control panel login information, which is what happened here. When this happens customers can use our "lost username" tool and the username will be sent to the primary email address we have file, which this customer did. The problem this customer had was that the primary email address we have on file IS DIFFERENT than the email address he was contacting us from, which is why he didn't receive his login information. In other words, the customer was checking the wrong email address.

On 9/18 (the date this review was written), this customer emailed us, but instead of fully explaining his issue, the customer chose to immediately insult our staff with vulgarities. On 9/18/11, we resent all login information, again to the primary email address we have on file. I recently switched from another popular Windows hosting provider. My main reason for switching was cost. I was paying quite a bit for a lot of extra disc space and the SQL server addon. Here with the Ultimate plan, I get more for a lot less. Performance seems a little better here on Winhost, which is great. Their control panel is clean and easy to use. They keep their email client (SmarterMail) up-to-date. I set up an account easily, moved my SQL server database over with no problems and have been very happy so far. I haven't had to ask any support questions, so I can't comment on that, but I've used their knowledge base a few times and found my answer quickly. Summary: I definitely recommend Winhost.

The Most Professional for Windows Hosting
Prior to hosting with WinHost I had been with another hosting company for almost 10 years. About two years ago I built an ASP.Net AJAX site and began to have no end of trouble with it. I am an experienced programmer with 15 years experience writing database-drive web sites on a Windows platform. Every time I complained about a problem, the other company would reply that they could not find the problem and that any code I wrote was my responsibility. My own research into the problems indicated a server issue, but they would not acknowledge it.

I spent a few weeks researching other hosting companies, one of which was WinHost. I submitted an actual problem I was having with the other company as a hypothetical, and asked what their response would be. They graciously replied, and provided the answer I knew was the correct one.

What's with all the whiners posting bad reviews? I have nothing but good things to say about their service. Performance is good, ease of use, control panel, KB, are all excellent. Their control panel is a joy to use; well laid out and organized. I was able to sign up, upload my site, and publish a SQL server db in an incredibly short amount of time. They have step by step instructions in their KB, which are very easy to follow. The features are superb and you get them for a pittance; $100 per year. No chance I would return to GoDaddy. Have try several host over the years - WinHost = the best so far.
I have hosted with discountasp.net, godaddy and host4life. Winhost are by far the best of these, excellent support, I have had 2-3 issues too query which where answered quickly. I have been moving all my domain/sites to winhost over the last year. I now have 7-8 accounts/domains with them, I feel that for 4.95 per month they provide an excellent service. Very happy cusustomer thus far, keep up the good work Winhost, don't muck it up like the others.

I have been with WinHost for seven months. I have not had 1 negative issue. I have not ever opened a support ticket or talked to the help desk, because everything works as it is suppose to. The Control Panel is designed very well and meets all my needs. I love the way they set up SQLServer. When accessing my SQLServer DBs from other hosts it would take forever because they would include all DBs from all other hosters. My DBs from WinHost come up very quickly. I have never noticed a down time. I've never had any issues with billing. I understand scoring all 10's sounds suspicious, but I have not had one problem with WinHost. How else can I score?

I can't say that from my other host. I am in the process of transfering everything to WinHost.

Also, I believe the prices are very competetive. The SSL price is very reasonable.

Well i don't know what is wrong with you guys, i've been using winHost for about last 2 years and never had any major problem. Never noticed any downtime and whenever i've opened a ticket for support they've answered within a few hours. I have 3 websites hosted with them so far: www.smartitguys.net, www.iWasla.com, www.eSchoolIreland.com.

Its horrible people making issues of small things, i've been reading comments here for different companies and i don't know whether to trust them, even good companies have bad reviews or may be its just competitors. Don't know but these guys are good at what they do.

And for this guys here who complains about cancelling the service, i had a website with them, www.onlinetakeaway.ie that i cancelled due to project cancelled and the site was closed straight away and i was never billed for it later on. I don't know what this guy have been doing...

These guys are harder to cancel than AOL! The ignore cancel requests, and just keep on billing your credit card.

This process takes forever... suggest someone else.

In our control panel there is a section where customers can cancel their hosting account. It is very simple and straightforward to use.

This customer choose to email us instead, which we will accept after verification. This customer sent in ONE cancellation email. When we received his email, we replied back to verify him as the account owner and the account was cancelled on the same day.

Up until recently, I would say the service has been acceptable. We are a web design hosting company and while many of the above posts were true about minimal customer support arfe true, we had the professional staff here to figure out the maze of their systems. Tonight however, they have lost a customer. Their servers went offline almost three hours ago. Understandably things happen. But what is totally unacceptable is the total lack of communication capability with tech support. SHort of an online ticket submission, there is nothing. Worse, they don't answer the freaking tickets. For three hours our phones have been rining off the hook from angry customers whose sites are offline. And for three hours we haven;t been able to provide an answer to either the problem or the time when they will be back online. We have submitted three tickets. None of which has been answered. It is difficult to specifically discuss this particular customer’s comments because when I search for his email address in our system and our helpdes, I am unable to locate him in. Also, this customer fails to provide his full name and the domain name that was hosted at WinHost.

This customer posted on 12/23/10 stating that we had an outage that lasted three hours. However, when I look at our logs we never had an outage that last three hours on or around 12/23/10. We did have two incidents on two separate servers on 12/22/10, however each of those incidents last only 15 minutes so for this gentleman to say he was down 3 hours is a bit of an exaggeration. Furthermore, any type of outage and maintenance is always communicated in the Outage and Maintenance section of the WinHost Community Forum (forum.winhost.com).

I just started with Winhost and I have to say for the money, it's pretty good.

FEATURES - Somewhat minimal. Example: there is no MySQL backup feature.
SUPPORT - It's actually not bad. They respond fairly promptly (under 12-16 hours) and they seem knowledgeable, although they assume you are as well, so they are not going to give an over abundance of details. Which I think is fine unless you are a complete newbie. They also appear to look at the forums frequently as well.

SIGNUP - Fast and smooth. Had no problems signing up and getting set up with everything I needed (FTP, Login, etc.)

I can't address the billing or refund issues other people have as I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far and don't intend to cancel. I don't have a full application up as well so I also can't comment on performance as well. In summary, I think what they offer is pretty good compared to the price. It has been impossible to find anyone from the support team to for direct contact. Email responses are neither helpful nor immediate. Last but not least, the hosting service is awful and each page of my site takes more than a minute to load. I am totally disappointed!
After looking up this gentleman's account, I see that he sent in ONE support ticket on 11/11/2010 5:23 AM (PST). We responded at 11/11/2010 8:20 AM (PST). This customer was essentially having FTP problems. However, the issue here was that this customer's FTP address was NOT resolving to our servers IP address. Depending on when this customer updated his DNS information, he may have needed to allow 24 hours for DNS propagation to be completed. We also informed this customer that he should use the secondary FTP address (we provide a secondary FTP address to all customers) to connect to our server and upload his site. We have never heard back from this customer.

As for the latency that this customer is experiencing, this customer has NEVER emailed us about any latency issues so this is the first we have heard about this. Hosting customers must understand there are a variety of reasons why a web site could be running slow, some that may have nothing to do with the web host. [...]

Winhost may be the best in terms of offering the lowest prices for DNN Hosting solutions, however as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for" and this could not be more true with Winhost's price and services.

The price they charge truly reflects the service they offer too! I had purchased the Winhost hosting package almost a month ago and have not been able to host my site up till now. Every time you contact their tech support (which very inconveniently is only via email and no phone) they sent me replies stating "DNN Installation support is not covered in the scope of support services offered by Winhost, hence the solution is to write a message in the forum". What displays even more lack of professionalism is they ask me for the URL when they already have my account details in their systems!!? One gets the feeling that the support centre is an outsourced call centre that does not have access to client information, therefore all the unwanted questions.

This customer wanted to use DNN with our hosting services. We have many customers that are successfully using DNN with our hosting services. However, this particular customer is asking us to install it for her. We replied back to her that, as per company policy, it is the customer's responsibility to install any third party applications on their hosting account (DNN is a third party application). We do have a WinHost Knowledge Base article that provides step by step instructions on how to install DNN on to a WinHost account. This was provided to her.

Essentially, this customer wants support for a third party application (i.e. DNN). We do not offer technical, programming or debugging support for third-party products, which includes DNN. We can assist in determining whether a system/service related issue may be causing a problem with DNN, which is why we asked her for the specific URL to see if we can replicate the problem (we have her information but we didn't have the [...]

Winhost hosts three domains of mine and I am very pleased with their services, especially for the price. I want to comment on the negative reviews I've read on this site.
Tech Support: I've had to use Tech Support only 3 or 4 times and the response was quick (within an hour) and the rep was knowledgeable able to address my issue.
Services provided: Anyone who signs up for any kind of service without even reading the clearly stated terms and conditions should blame himself, not the service provider.
Auto renewal: My site has been up since November, 1992 and Winhost is my third hosting company (the other two are large and well known). All have auto-renewed the charge to my credit card each billing period. Providers can't afford to do anything else. Do you really expect a provider charging you $4.95 a month to send you a monthly statement hoping that you'll pay it sometime in the future? I signed up for the $4.95 plan along with registering a new domain. I prepaid for the whole year. $69 bucks total. I never received an welcome email with the access settings (ie FTP, email, etc) or any communication at all for that matter. I cannot sign in to the control panel. I've tried posting to the forum, but I get "you are not authorized to do that". I've tried the "FOrgot your username and password" link about 20 times with no success. The only message replies "If there is an account associated with this account, you will receive an email"....I've sent numerous emails to the 'sales@winhosts.com' with NO RESPONSE whatsoever!
STAY AWAY.
When a customer signs up for our hosting services, their welcome email is automatically sent to the email address we have on file within minutes after signup.

Furthermore, we did receive and reply to every one of this customer's email. He sent it 7 emails and we replied to every single one of them.

Check out their REFUND policy --- we have a 3.5gb MS SQL Server -- which is too large for this company. Paid 12 months in advance for the service only to find out they do not support large db storage. Then to top it off they do not refund money. We started the service on 06/22/2010 and closed it on 07/07/2010 and they will not refund the money. Well we will take it up with American Express.

Total waste of time. By the way they do not have online support or phone support. Only way to get in touch with technical support is via trouble tickets.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS WinHost.com --- total losers.
This customer was unhappy about the SQL space that we provide. The SQL space that we provide is listed on our site (it's not a secret). Because we choose not to oversell our servers, we do not offer the SQL space that this customer wants, but yet he still signed up. Why he still choose to sign up for our services when the specs that we list on our site clearly do not satisfy his requirements is an unknown.

In addition, we state in our T&C's that because we offer a monthy billing option (this is very rare, as most providers want you to sign up for multiple years in order to get the advertised low price) that we do not offer refunds. This customer still made the decision to sign up for a year, assuming that he could do whatever he wanted w/ our services. For him to have made this assumption is WRONG!

Lastly, WE DID IN FACT REFUND THIS CUSTOMER.

I hosted with winhost too and found out that they advertised unlimited domains when they meant a single domain with multiple domain pointers. Their responses were unsatisfactory and it seems from this post their rebuttals are the same - 'I dont know' ... which ticket I was talking about but they say they respond within 2 hours - they did not.
Customers can host multiple domains/websites within one hosting plan if you want. We offer Unlimited Domain Pointers so you can add as many domains as you want for your Site through your customer control panel, and you have full control to programmatically redirect your additional domains to whatever subdirectory you want. You can set the subdirectory as its own Application Starting Point using the Application Starting Point in your control panel.

We have hundreds of cusotmers that are successfully hosting multiple domains/web sites within one hosting plan.

However, there are some disadvantages to hosting websites in this manner. All your domains are in one shared application pool, your don't get separate stats for each domain, you only get email alias service for the domain pointers, and you don't get the full set of tools for each domain.

I'm not sure what the spam issue was because the customer never explained it. There is no ticket about any spam issue in our helpdesk. With SmarterMail there are many features to control spam. Greylisting is available. You can also control the severity of the spam filtering. So if you want to filter spam with the highest level, the cusotmer is in full control. The tradeoff is that if you increase the level of spam filtering, then it is possible that legitimate emails will be filtered. This is the same as with any spam filtering system. Rather than posting complaints on other sites, we would recommend people to first contact our tech support and describe your issues. There just may be a solution for it.

Winhost is a solid company. You get 200% of what you should expect for $4.95 per month. This includes unlimited number of sites, one ms sql 2008 database, php support, asp .net support up to 3.5, silverlight and tens of other microsoft technologies. Big advantage is also the forum where you can ask questions not necesairly related to hosting (like programming issues etc.) and where you get fast answers from their staff. In fact, I can't think of anything bad about this company...

I can't say enough good things about WinHost. Seriously.

I pay $10 a month and can access 5 SQL Server 2008 databases, and multiple ASP.NET websites. I have my own app pool. I can test MVC, Silverlight, and other applications. I can connect directly to my SQL Server database with SSMS2008. I can admin my site with IIS7 Services manager from my desktop. I can publish directly to my website from within Visual Studio 2008 and 2010. $10 a month is what I pay for a static IP from the cable company.

Someone else is whining because they got billed the next month for $4.95? What kind of website would you be hosting that you'd want it to expire at the end of the month? Of course you'd want them to auto renew each month until you cancel! WinHost Rocks.

WinHost is using Graylisting which is a show stopper for me, I wasn't familiar with this feature at first but then I found out that it's an AntiSpam feature which work very well except it delays your emails between 30-90 minutes. Graylisting essentially blocks all email messages and sends an error message to the sending server, is the sending server re-tries to send the message to you, only then your email is delivered to you. This process works very well against spam but, I need my emails delivered to me quickly 30-90 minutes is simply unacceptable.
Yes, greylisting is an anti-spam method and a very effective one at that. Our tests show a decrease in spam of 80% to 90% when greylisting is implemented, but it can cause delivery delays. Those delays will vary, depending on the sending server, but are typically no more than a few minutes. I'm not sure why this customer was experiencing delays of 30 to 90 minutes. Because this customer posted anonymously I cannot look up his/her hosting account or past tickets. I'm wonder if this customer was also using another spam control method on his/her computer that also added to the delay.

In any event, our customers can TURN OFF Greylisting if they want. We have an article in our knowledge base that provides instructions on how to turn it off.

DO NOT HOST YOUR WEBSITE AT WinHost. WinHost does not care about customer satisfaction.
You can pay for hosting for as short as one month. They will automatically renew your account so that you are billed. This is stated in the fine print when you sign up, so read it carefully.
You receive NO REMINDER, NO EMAIL, NO RECEIPT, or any confirmation that you are continuing to make payments. Surprise, it shows up on your credit card statement. Any quality web hosting company wouldn’t be deceptive with their customers.
When I asked WinHost to reimburse me for the second month’s payment because I wanted to cancel my account and had no intention of renewing, they wouldn’t budge. It was a clear mistake, I had not even used the hosting account, yet they wouldn’t refund a measiliy $4.95.
Do yourself a favor and give your business to a quality web hosting company. Try www.gatorhost.com or www.godaddy.com
It is very common for hosting companies to auto-renew hosting accounts on the behalf of customers. As a courtesy, we auto-renew all hosting accounts. This is done in order to avoid web site downtime in the event that a customer forgets to renew his/her hosting account. Many of our customers are hosting businesses and/or applications that if they went offline due to nonpayment, we could be essentially be turning off their business. This is another reason why we auto-renew.

Furthermore, because of the low price of $4.95/mo and because we offer a month to month payment option, which is very rary in the hosting industry, we do not provide refunds (this is stated in our terms and conditions, that this customer choose not to read). Please note, most hosting companies that offer sub-$5 dollar hosting, want the customer to agree to a multi-annual agreement. We do not.

Also, our customers can cancel their hosting accounts via their customer control panel, whenever they desire. [...]
