I have been hosting websites with maiahost for several years now. I remember finding them somehow online and needing to give some hosting company a chance so I went with them. I have never once regretted this decision. I only work on websites as a small business owner, not a web designer, so I have lots of questions as I learn as I go along. The customer support at Maiahost is always excellent. I am not a big telephone support person, but every time I call I get help. What is even better for me is the online chat. I feel like someone is always there (even throughout the night) to help me immediately. I never have to wait for help. My sites always run well, and maiahost has been extremely reliable. I would recommend without a reservation to my friends and family

started out good but is getting worse and worse
In the beginning I was pleased with Maiahost, but the last couple of months it has gotten from bad to worse. Lots of downtime, lots of issues and very annoyed reactions when you contact them. I'm in the process of moving my sites, because I'm getting really fed up with them.

Maiahost Support Live Chat is superb
I had several websites that I needed to transfer to different hosting accounts. I contacted their support team and was give step by step instructions. I had never transferred a joomla site before this time and they offered to assist me in the process. About the third time they said it, I decided to take them up on the offer and get it done right the first time. I had both my sites up and running within 15 minutes and all I needed was to change the DNS on my domains. Thankful for their help

CLIENTS BEWARE - MAIAHOST IS ALMOST LIKE A SCAM
We went with MaiaHost sometime last year because surprisingly a friend recommended them to me. Despite Maia's clear indication that they have a 99% uptime, that's not true at all! Quite often our site was down. Our programmer was barely able to get work done at least four times in only a few weeks early on. For several months everything seemed OK. Then billing cycle came around again and we started having more problems.

We happily moved to another host and transferred our domain name first. Second, we tried to transfer our files and database. Our new host asked us for the information to do this and, it turns out, they were unable to because MaiaHost does NOT allow you to make back-ups of your own website!

That's right - you will lose absolutely everything if you can't back it up, and there is no backup feature. Only MaiaHost themselves can do it, through Tech Support. This, by the way, is absolutely ridiculous! As an admin of your own website, you should be able to back up your [read more...]

I recently spent a week trying to figure out how to link my website with google apps. It was extremely frustrating being my first time through the setup. I clicked the live assistance link and was immediately helped, and problem was solved. Within seconds, they reviewed my codes and corrected them. Wow... I could not be more pleased with how simple and easy Maia makes it. There were a few glitches along the way that I ran into because of my own mistakes but Maia's support quality and response time are grade A+++.

Amazingly fast response time to questions and issues - I would not believe how fast they are if I did not experience it myself - longest wait time to have any issues resolved was no more than 15 minutes. Even with my many blunders within 2 days I have a fully functional website that I am thrilled with - in 2 days went from nothing to a fully functional website!

Maiahost - excellent hosting company
I host over 20 domains with Maiahost since 2008 and have always been very impressed with their service.

The 3 main aspects why I enjoy their service:

- Very reliable - sites are always online, if one site is not online they can always identify the problem (has always been my fault, not theirs, e.g. I haven't changed the name server)

- Support - their live support feature is excellent, I must ask them at least 1 question a month and there is someone available 15+ hours a day, 7 days a week and they can always help

- Cpanel features - their cpanel is very easy to use, yet also very detailed. Adding domains, email addresses, subdomains, ftp, file manager etc is all very well presented.

With anything I choose, I always look for reviews, so I've written this in the hope that people who were in my shoes a few years ago and undecided over which hosting company to may be more likely to consider Maiahost and enjoy the same hosting service I do.

Maiahost.com is a very good hosting.
I am at maihost.com for almost 2 years now and I have 3 websites on that host.
I must say that I needed a lot of help along the way, I had some troubles (always because of I am unexperienced) and Venetsian and Joe always are very friendly and helped me very fast,
even with things that don't fall under the hosting packets, she even installed a PHP script for me that I bought somewhere else and which I never had done before, and if I have some trouble with my website I can always ask them, if they can help me they will.
Websites are never down as far as I know, connection speed is good and the price of a hosting is not much. But the most important thing of all is that support is very good.
So I am a satisfied costumer and I am planing to stay there as long as I have those websites.

I transfered my domain from other hosting site, first few months everything was fine, but one day after I log in my domain through maiahost web service, my email was hacked, and start send out bad email, so my domain was shut down, when I found that out several days later( I did not check my domain everyday, and nobody notice me that my business domain was shut down), I called the customer service, and I think this is one man show company, because anytime I was answered by same guy, who is not really help me anything, instead he said my domain was shut down because I send out bad email, that does not make any sense I am doing the business on jewelry, why would I doing such thing, but dose not matter how I explain he still refused to reopen my website, so right now, I can not use my web and can not transfer, and no one even try to help to me in this company to solve this problem, so do not take your risk spend your time money and anything on this company, you will regret your choice [read more...]

Dissappointed with Maiahost
I was with Maiahost for 3 years give or take. There are some good things I could say about them and i particular the promptness off their tech support. Sadly anything good I can say is eclipsed by the fact they terminated my account at the request of Spamhaus for being a source of spam and malware.

In fairness I canceled the account before I was officially terminated but I did get a message saying Spamhaus demanded my site be removed before Maiahost would be unlisted as a hosting service for spam.

My last year or more there was nothing but an ordeal for me in terms of my site being hacked over and over. It came to eb that I was doing less posting than trying to deal with yet another hacking or malware situation. The last situation had been going since around Christmas of 2010. The same source kept injecting .htacess files into my FTP. They just could not solve the problem and in the end terminated my account as though it were my fault. Though it seemed too cheap to be real when I signed up, this hosting company has been stellar. The guys have answered all of my basic questions very quickly over the years. They seem to ALWAYS be online waiting for a support chat and anticipating my questions, and willing to help a newbie, such as myself. My blog has always loaded quickly and only been down one time, which I think was my fault. For someone as technically (web and script tech) phobic as I am, it's a nightmare to find good webhosting when you want more than just premade templates and occasional assistance with setting-up and/or running your site. It's even harder to find support that will answer every question calmly and thoroughy - and not make you feel like an idiot in the process.

So when you're lucky enough to find a host with technical support staff that respond quickly and to the best of their ability, you'd be a fool to look elsewhere.

Being a close to novice where it comes to transferring files and uploading them to the correct location, I created a mess on my site.

When we started service with Maia we were very impressed. Excellent Customer service and assistance with anything we needed.

After several months things began to change. The "24 hour" support is manned by someone that it wakes them up to call at night. Then they changed the ticketing support system with no notice, so tickets were ignored. When We gave up waiting and went to sales about it we were told very rudely that we should not use the system we always sued before. Then they claimed our site was hacked, though we had no sign of it. Then they shut down many of our forum features from working with no warning or notification before or after. When I asked about it they claimed they didn't change anything at all. After several weeks of trying to find out what they changed, and hiring a php expert to comb our site for what sort of error could have happened (and what the supposed hacker could have done) he determined there were NO PROBLEMS with our site. I'm so sorry for what happened! I remember that at the time we had serious issues with your website. Your forum managed to overload our server with no apparent reason. Some processes were taking seconds at up to 60% process CPU shares. I suppose there was some software server requirements incompatibility with your forum software or some of its plug-ins.
You were one of my favorite clients and I love the hourly chats we had over the live chat. I know how much you love your forum and you are really angry at me for asking you to move to VPS or close the account.

Just to update: I have cancelled my service with this company, ironically enough 2co, the company that does their payment processing, was EXTREMELY pleasant and immediately processed my refund request, so if you have troubles like mine, contact them for help. I was informed that weather or not tthe company complies I will b getting my refund and to contact them in 24 hours weather or not Ihad received my refund to be sure of my satisfaction.

Presupposing the refund goes through I will take no furthur action against this company, and I expect their response here to be filled with some BS so if their response comes up stating anywhere they I am continuing business with them THIS IS NOT TRUE, I AM NOT A CUSTOMER ANYMORE.

My wife, at my behest ordered a domain and hosting, all seemed good and they were quick to take the money, however their price was absolutely unbelievable and sure enough it was.

My wife works nights, I work days as a Peace Officer. So while sleeping my wife went and ordered with these guys and after a few hours of waiting for an email (we received the payment receipt, I mean the login information), she had not received it. So figuring no big deal (and after checking spam) she went to their website and started the online support (which is 24 hours). From nearly the moment she started talking to the customer support he was extremely rude and trying to end the conversation, rather than help. All she wanted was the email sent out from them. Now she could not remember the domain name offhand (i had rolled over onto the paper she had it written on) He then told her he could look it up by order ID....then all the sudden he couldn't. I remember you said that your wife asked you to purchase web hosting account from us and you were extremely tired when you did the order so that you forgot to send the correct domain name to your wife before going to bed. I would also like to add that Chis is one Honored Police Officer. He was after long 24 hour shift when he placed the order around 12:00 PM EST.
At about 2:00 AM Juliana (his wife) calls in our live chat support to request the account information that Chris forgot to forward. Then our live chat person asks her for the domain name, but Juli is not sure what Chris used when he signed up. That's why Julie decides to wake up Chris and ask him to contact us and get the account information.
Not having more than 2 hours sleep after a long day at work, Chris furiously requests that the manager be woken up to send him his account information or he will - quote from above "I would be contacting the New York Business Board if they do not comply with their [...]

I have been a customer for just over a month, hosting a small private wiki. I have found the site to be fast and responsive and have been very happy with that aspect of it.

I was transferring the wiki from another site and we initially had some problems with the transfer because of different MediaWiki versions. I have been very impressed with the customer support; I communicated via email and the replies were always very prompt, and they kept working through the issues until I was satisfied.

Maiahost is really good for a small web hosting company. I'm from New York and I've visited their office which is located in the Queens area.

The owner is indeed nice guy and really helpful. They helped me get my websites up and I'm extremely satisfied with their services.

It is really important to mention that they are US company and all their support is here in the USA not outsourced to India and others. I guess that explains why they respond fast only during US Business hours.

I'm a web designer and own a marketing company currently managing 20 or so websites.

If Maiahost had not already wasted so much of my precious time I would go into each detail about why you should avoid this company at all costs.

Especially bloggers. They have suspended our site over and over and over for no reason other than we were updating our blogs. No Notice, no explanation, and no fix. If you are using wordpress and want to work on your website through Maiahost. Each click counts as a hit on your site, even editing pages or navigating your dashboard. This is too much for Maiahost and they will suspend your website, even if the traffic is from YOU. I even verified that the IP addresses were mine and the activity was coming from us updating our Blog. SMALL SITES TOO, they sites we were hosting there were artist portfolios.

So, this is just the newest pain in the arse that Maiahost Has delivered.

Since this issue we worked out our problems with Chris Hansen and he continued to host with us. To confirm please whois his nalakimia.com and you will see his name and our hosting server maia2.com. He acknowledged that he was extremely angry at us at the time and in his rage he posted this bad review on all web host review sites he could find.
We know Chis is a great guy and that's why we continue to work with him even after he said all those bad things about is. We know that when a person is angry he is able to destroy everything around them even thou we all know in our inner self that this is not right!

The owner is a nice enough guy, but he doesn't have the skill set to run a hosting company,

Their server was down for 3 full days a few months ago, and now it is down again.

To make matters even worse, they refuse to answer the phone, reply to emails, or answer live chats when this happens. It appears that they go and hide from their customers whenever something bad happens.

The money you save with them isn't worth the poor service you have to put up with.

Truth be said, Maiahost service is not bad, so long as you don't use much of their advertised allocation. Once you use a bit more, they will kick you out even though you haven't even reached a fraction of your allocation.. Then you see Dr Jeckyl turning into Mr. Hyde.

I joined Maiahost Multiple Plan in February 2009 because they claimed in their advertisement to offer 50,000 MB monthly bandwidth and 5,000 MB disk space for US$6.95 per month. But when I used up only 2,352 MB. of our monthly bandwidth allocation (5% of 50GB) and 2,550 MB of our disk space allocation (51% of 50GB), they kicked me out and told me that they could sell those resources to "20 other people". This means that their actual allocation for their Multiple Plan is only 118 MB bandwidth transfer and 128 MB disk space! That is why I give them a rating of 1 for Price/Cost.

Maiahost claimed that I exceeded their 1.5% CPU usage but by how much is really a mystery, with Online Chat Support saying that I touched [read more...]

And again please don't use the store usage a criteria since the problem with your account was only in CPU usage which we enforce in order to prevent server degradation. This is what we promised and advertised as service level!

I had two domains hosted with MaiaHost. Both were pre-paid for a year. Abruptly, Maiahost shut down one of my web sites stating my site was being bombed by spammers on one of my email accounts. I demanded a refund since they insisted I move to another host for the actions of some one else. A month or so later, the shut down my other site claiming it was using to many CPU cycles. I moved the site to JustHost where everything has been fine for both sites. But, here's the kicker, despite my requests directly to the management, MaiaHost never refunded the unused portion of my subscription for the second hosting account they shut down.

Them's the facts. Make of them what you will.

I'm really sorry for what happened but please understand that your political blog was stirring up too much trouble and I guess someone sabotaged your site. As you know the shared hosting plans is shared with other clients and when your site is under attack other clients sharing the same server experience the same problem which makes it unacceptable for us to host such sites. For such issues we recommend switching to virtual private or dedicated hosting plans.

A good webhost to work with if you don't use much of their resources but rather nasty when you use "too much". Just beware of their 1.5% CPU usage that makes their monthly bandwidth and disk space allocation absolutely meaningless. (Hostgator offers 25% CPU usage.) My websites were suspended when I used 5% of my monthly bandwidth allocation. I was told by their Online Live Chat staff that I had hit 2.6% of their CPU usage while their manager says I hit 10%. Someone in the company is obviously telling a lie. In the words of the Maiahost manager, "It is better for us to refund you since you will cost us more money if we host you. As I said, your website is using a lot of resources and we can host about 20 other people for the same resources you use." I told GoDaddy my situation and they told me to use their Deluxe Plan which cost 4 cents more than Maiahost. But wait. I'm really sorry that we don't fit your budget. Our shared plans are shared on equal share with all other clients therefore you can not use more than others on the same plan. It is not fair to slow down their sites because you can't afford our larger plans. Please don't be mad at us! We try to provide top level web service and we are especially proud that we offer the Fastest NON-OVERLOADED web hosting services on the internet!

I read a poor review of Maia Host and while I have had some problems in the big picture I am satisfied with the way they have handled some problems for me. I am having some hacker issues on my WP blog and they seem to be all they can do. Currently they are moving my account to a new server to see if that can isolate or eliminate the problem. If I am the target of some hacker's impassioned attack I am not sure if I can be safe 100%, but I feel they are trying to resolve the matter.

I have had some rude service in the live support chat once but I cannot say I do all the time. I did feel the support person tried to push me into an expensive plan but when I complained about it the matter was taken care of and my problem at the time was handled by someone else.

Maybe not perfect, as if there is any such thing, but I would say they are okay. I just hope their server has not been hacked.
