I was a client of Dot Canada for 9 - 10 Years. I bought the package through Costco, I was very happy with the company for the first 8 years. I think they got bought out and then everything started to go downhill. I lived in Germany and could not access my website because they added an IP block ! If they are going to add an IP Block then they should add a trusted IP function. But they wont and they told me they could not do anything at all. So I cancelled my package 2 years ago and now every year, when the contract is supposed to be renewed I get an email with an invoice. It is impossible to contact them through the phone and the only way to contact them is through tickets which may take a long time to get replied. It is so sad to see how bad dot canada has become.

The worst company ever! If you like to write support tickets every second day then this is the company for you. The provided email programs do not work, which they say is not their fault. Emails in the trash get deleted automatically and they do nothing to change that. The website goes down at least twice a month, more likely more often. When you write a support ticket it goes from one person to the next, so you can explain the issue over and over again, of course they do not bother to read the original ticket. Most often the problem is NOT solved or back the next day. Certainly it NEVER is their fault. Secure certificates all in the sudden come back as NOT SECURE. By the time you notice you lost business over several days, or in my case 2 weeks. They do not know what there are doing. worst customer support I've ever experienced!
If I could rate this company as 0 I would! Dot canada transferred our domain (without my knowledge or consent) now I am unable to upload files to our company website. Called and emailed for support. Waited on the phone for 72 minutes only to be disconnected after getting to number 2 position. No emails or calls back. The live chat doesn't respond. Now I have to wait 60 days to change hosting as CIRA won't allow it since it has been transferred recently. No unlock or EPP code for the .com domain either. No doubt will be another gong show when I go to switch providers. Dot Canada (and dotwebnames) should not be allowed to host sites, especially business sites!

dotCanada is NOT worth doing business with.
Thois company shutdown my account repeatedly over a 5 year period. They avareaged about 6-9 months between each shutdown. When tech support was called in it took roughly 2 weeks each time to get my account back up and running. When I pulled my account out, they sent me a bill for the next two years and had me wait 90 minutes on the phone to rectify the problem. I will be calling Visa to block this purchase.

two days after I finished negotiating terms with my supplier for my online store and was about to go live, the site went down repeatedly, I've backed up my information but I'm getting the run around from these douches. They're over priced and don't treat their customers with respect. 'Zero Down Time' is not true and just a scam to earn peoples trust. If my store had been fully live and I had lost clients I would be suing them right now.

Well after reading all the post I found that there are none current. I have been with them for some time now and yes, at first they had there problems but over the years they have grown and become better across the board. I still have some problems with support not knowing their software offerings completely, I also find that there Knowledge base or help site can be improved. There is one problem as they have moved to a more robust suite of software that any sites done in the old software are not convertible, this may have been my fault as I don't go in and update the site as often as I should. Now for their new software suite, very good, easy to work with but new users may find it confusing as there is so much more and are offering so much more.

Bottom line, I stuck with them and it has paid off and very pleased with most things.

My account was due for renewal on Dec. 1/09.
On Oct. 24/09 I paid in full for renewal of my hosting and domain name.
On Dec. 1/09 these idiots shut down my website and e-mail.
I spent an entire week trying to get this resolved. Tried everything, live chat, e-mails, and several tickets. They just didn't bother to respond in any way. Even reported my dissatisfaction to Costco but have not heard from them yet.

This is a business and my suppliers and customers expect a certain level of professionalism from our company. Unfortunately this has now been irreversibly tarnished.

Seriously, find another hosing company to work with.

I purchased a domain name and hosting package from dotcanada through Costco Membership Services over 4 years ago. They were not too bad at the start, however recently I found hosting services cheaper someplace else and wanted to change over to a new company but dotcanada highjacked my site when I requested the epp codes for domain transfer and they are giving me total BS requesting information and pretending to not know what I am talking about. Each email and request that I send gets ignored and they try to give me another process that I have to go through to get that code I need. That Mike guy who is mentioned in other reviews below is the biggest jerk of all at DOTCANADA and acts like a pompous idiot. I would never recommend DOT CANADA to anyone. They are a bad organization with incompetent people.

I signed up 2 years ago and this week decided to order another website from them. Unfortunatly only after I paid, did they tell me the system no longer works on the OS4 panel, and now it is on the control panel. Basically it is much more complicated to work with and the service from this company SUCKS!!! Whether you are calling tech support, sales or billing, you will get either "MIKE" or "NORMAN" on the phone. Mike will make you feel like you are wasting his time and will even hang up the phone on you when he gets fed up. Norman (Norm) , well it's his first day everyday and has no clue what to do in any circumstance. Couldn't even answer the simplest question. When he wasn't able to, he simply told me to just play around, try it out and if I am not happy with the sites designs, then he suggested I try another webhosting company. They are the worst hosts I've ever used. The price is okay but not for the service provided.

They started out great but "upgraded" and got rid of CPanel (and lost all my site and data) and now they are crap. Cust. service is awful. They NEVER answer the phone and emails take days to answer and they rarely give the right answer. You can't create sub domains. You can have 50 databases but can only manage three of them via the web management tool. You have to email them for the other 47. And that takes days. They don't have a good CMS. Overall, they are crap. Stay far, far away.

At a first look, dotCanada looked great, and they were for about my first 10 months. Then I decided to go over to their Costco plan, since it was the same price, but with better features, and still was ok for a bit.

dotCanada then decided to fuck over all Costco members. They took away the real support desk for Costco users, and added a crappy phone service and an even more crappy e-mail support tool.

They also took away cPanel and added a control panel they made themselves. It was the shittiest thing I have ever used.

Now, I can get over those two. But they went too far when they took away sub-domains.

Now, I could go on, but it hurts too much to think about them.

Sticking your dick in an oven is more enjoyable than using their services.

This host is a boat load of trouble. They lost my data in one of their moves. They conveniently switched the CPanel to some home grown patchwork and called it an improvement. I did make the mistake of full year payment. Living it now.

For running a business online expect to loose money with dotcanada.com. Nothing but problems from day 1. Make sure you back up your site and data. Expect lots of downtime and loss of email.

Their online support is terrible too.

i agree completely with all the posters so far. they have been down for day--once upto a whole week. they have lost valuable emails when claimimg to be restoring service. now they have fiddled with the server that jpegs cannot be loaded, nor watermarks placed on images. i am a photographer, and all my contact is by the website!
AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, THEY HAV E BEEN A COMPLETE DISASTER FOR ME--MUCH AS I HATE TO BADMOUTH A FELLOW CANADIAN BUSINESS.
NO WAY TO REACH THEM FOR SUPPORT. TODAY I CANNOT EVEN LOGON TO THEIR SUPPORT SITE. ASKED FOR MY PASSWORD TO BE EMAILED (AN AUTOMATED SERVICE), AND WHAT CAME BACK WAS WHAT I KNEW IT TO BE--=AND IT DOES NOT WORK!!!

I'm having the same problem right now as the previous persons complaint. Begining of February 2006 they switched servers and I had night mare problems with that. Then two weeks ago they had a problem with the diefenbaker server and all my database was gone for like a week meaning my site was down for that whole time. The only thing I got from them is "sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused". They use that line every time there is a problem. Now all my aw stats are gone and all my emails. All my client emails...my whole business runs on emails and they are telling me that the most recent back up they have is only of the emails I received yesterday. It seems like they did the backup after they realized they lost all the other emails before that.
Their response time sucks. Most of my tickets have been discardet so I can't even tell when all the other problems occured! My site has been down at least a couple times each month since I signed up with them. I'm planning to [read more...]

the support service is very poor and the information on there web site is very unclear on how to implement different features. Trouble tickets are written off without actually fixing the problem.

While the service appeared decent, and had a nice price (about $12 Canadian per month), they utterly blew it for service and support.

When the crap hit the fan, they failed. Our site was hosted on a server in their system called Tupper. After we had been with them since October of 2004, in Feb 2006 they decided to move our site to another server within their network (called Bennet). The transition was a nightmare.

They lost all our staff Email (over 60 people), all our web site stats, and I had to chase them for WEEKS to get any effort out of them to correct the problem. Ultimately it was never fixed appropriately. We never got an apology. We never were offered anything in reparation for this massive mistake on their part.

In fact., I had to threaten them with filing complaints with provincial and federal business authorities before they even took any effort to respond to our problems. Never ever use these people - because when you need them, they won't be there.
