😠 They are set to rip you off
I was paying more than $80 for a slow celeron with 512 KB of RAM. All is really bad there, I just stayed more than 3 years due to lack of time to move over to other host. Finally, I did and can only be happy.
Now, they changed their name to Small Business Authority, Pretty silly for a web hosting company.

😠 Cancelled the account due to timeouts on the website and down time. Processed the cancellation via a Live Consultant and they confirmed no more payments will be taken from my account. They continued to bill my credit card after cancellation for 3 months, until I disputed with my credit card company and black-listed THEM. They insist that I need to call them to cancel, which I will not do. I signed up online, I cancelled online, with a consultant, and nothing more should be needed from me. Never again. The one thing I CANNOT stand is an online company that cannot be trusted to STOP BILLING when the service is over. This is the biggest threat to online purchasing. Buyer BEWARE!

😠 A simply awful experience. We have been loyal customers of CrystalTech/Newtek for 10+ years... recommending their services to any client or colleague looking for hosting, but no more.
We received an email from them telling us that our account had been deleted. The issue was that our billing had changed, but they had not received an update... so after X days, the account was deleted. According to CrystalTech/Newtek, advance notice emails were sent to alert us of this, but none of these were received. We checked our logs of all emails sent to and from CrystalTech/Newtek support, and no advance notices were found. They did, however, have no problem with their cancellation email. We explained this fact to them, and their response was to offer to restore our account for the low price of $120. This was unacceptable. We spoke with several representatives over the course of a few weeks to resolve the issue, escalating it up the chain, but they continued to demand the $120 "restore" fee.

😃 Feb 2010: The CrystalTech support team are friendly people. Unfortunately, much of their hosting technology is very old.
Examples:
(1) I have a dedicated server with a database on a shared SQL server. I often receive SQL timeouts and, since I have a few tables which are very small (less than 5,000 records), I am certain it's 100% caused by their hosting OVER 400 databases on the same shared server! How do I know? SQL Management Studio 2008 (SMS2008) shows you the counter. They claim it's monitored but, each time I report an issue, the support team (including level-2 server administrators) state they have no way of knowing which customer is abusing the system (due to poor code and/or database design). This is the stupidest excuse I've ever heard; SQL has built-in tools for capturing such info for latter analysis.
(2) I often receive nonsensical advice from their so-called expert support staff. I was recently told by them to export my database to my local machine to make [read more...]

😠 ***Now NEWTEK Business Services*** Service was OK up until about a 2 weeks ago... during these last 2 weeks they have lost numerous e-mails, deleted an entire day's worth of emails (without the ability to recover) and then just yesterday, they switched our hosting to another server and from my understanding, forgot to attach our e-mail addresses to it so everything bounced for an entire day. They have continued to say they would fix it, but it only gets worse. I'm not sure their technical staff knows what they are doing, or they are very much over worked.
Being in corporate catering, about 40% of our ordering come via e-mail, this has severly disrupted out business and in some cases, upset our clients. Anyone in business knows they need partners they can rely on, Newtek (crystal tech) is not one of them. Very dissappointed in their response to our problems and their ability to fix problems in a timely manner. My advice, they will cost you clients and money... use someone [read more...]

😉 They DELETED my web site over $9!!!!
I never even knew I owed money! I had a receipt saying I was paid through 12/15, but on 12/9, I got a notice saying it had been deleted due to the $9 bill! My web site wasn't shut down, it was DELETED!
I explained that I had a receipt from them, which they could see, that showed I was paid current. To no avail. They SUCK! I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. EVER.
Buyer, beware. They're AWFUL!

😞 Crystaltech people are pretty friendly. Unfortunately, their hosting technology is pretty behind. For example, their online chat is really slow and old technology. For their multi hosting account, you need to create your own codes and page for the domain names to be redirected to folders. This is also pretty behind. When I tried to set up my websites, I also found that their web hosting server set up has a problem where you cannot use virtual folders. Also their control panel is also behind in technology and not easy to navigate and create email boxes. They will also nickel and dime you where if you change your domain name for your account, they will charge you an extra fee of USD 20. When I asked for a refund because I could not use my account it took longer than expected and they charged me a daily pro rated rate. I had written several emails saying I could not even use their hosting. And I even had to call. So in the end, they finally refunded back my money after complaining.

😠 My business depends on this ISP, and when you go down for any period of time, it jepordizing my reputation to hundreds of other businesses.
I can't work with a company like yours that goes down for any period of time. I suggest you prepare a back-up system for any future disruptions. In this industry you have to be prepared for everything, including heavy volumes. This is poor planning on your part.
