😠 Was OK until I needed support then... nothing.
Last week I had to deal with a server hack and a ransomware attack on a VPS I have at VPSVille. Annoying but the data held on the server is fairly static and I have a backup on their system so it should just be a matter of restoring it.
Unfortunately when I tried to restore the backup nothing happened. I can see the backup there but when I start a restore nothing happens.
Ok, next step is to contact support... contact support... contact support... uh oh.
After 4 days of trying not even an acknowledgement from their support department.
Hello....? The company advertises 24/7 support staff... is anyone even alive there?
Don't get me wrong, when everything ran fine it was just great. I mean not outstanding... cost was a little high but speeds were fine. However as soon as I actually needed something from them... nothing.
I've stopped all payments to the company but haven't yet shut down the VPS, just to see if they will ever actually do something. I'll rebuild the lost data easily on another system at minimal cost in time, so honestly to me it's not a big deal.
However.... if this had been a mission critical server and the same thing happened it would have been a disaster.
So from personal experience, if you are looking for a cheap host there are cheaper ones out there. I use Linode now and they have been great for several years, but there are others.
If you're looking for a reliable host then VPS Ville is not it.
Honestly don't see a single reason for anyone to use them. They're not the cheapest, they're not the best. Their control panel is minimal and they apparently have absolutely no support if you run into trouble.
