New Accredited Registrars Announced; Public Comments Invited on Proposed ICANN 2000-2001 Budget

(May 11, 2000) The Internet Corporationfor Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced today that fourteenadditional companies have qualified to be accredited as domainname registrars in the .com, .net and .org domains. They are:

Domainsite.com, Inc.(United States)
FloridaNet, Inc. dba ValueWeb(United States)
Gal Communications Ltd.(Israel)
HKNet Company Limited (HongKong)
InfoBack Corporation (UnitedStates)
InnerWise, Inc. (UnitedStates)
Marksonline, Inc. (UnitedStates)
Mr. DomReg.com, Inc. (Canada)
Omnis Network, LLC (UnitedStates)
Siteleader, Inc. (UnitedStates)

These new 14 bring the total number ofcompanies that have met the criteria for accreditation to 124.The new registrars will become part of the Shared RegistrationSystem ("SRS"), the domain name registration systemfor competitive registrars in the .com, .net, and .org top-leveldomains. Stability of the Internet and continuity for consumersare protected by the requirement that every business desiringto become a registrar in top-level domains must first becomeaccredited by ICANN. Under the SRS competing ICANN-accreditedregistrars register domain names utilizing one shared, centralregistry operated and maintained by Network Solutions, Inc.

Public Comments Invitedon Proposed ICANN 2000-2001 Budget

ICANN is in the process of formulatingits budget for the 2000-2001 fiscal year. A draft budget developedthrough a consultative process with members of ICANN constituencieswas posted on the ICANN web site on March 6 and discussed atthe ICANN public meeting in Cairo on March 9. After revisionswere made through additional consultation with members of theICANN community, the proposed budget was discussed by the ICANNBoard at its monthly meeting on May 4 and approved for postingfor public comment.

The Board invites comments on the revisedbudget and has established a Public Comment Forum for that purpose.Comments should be made by June 1, 2000, so that they reach theBoard in time for its consideration of adopting a budget at itsJune 2000 meeting.
