ICANN welcomes the Internet Community to Mar del Plata, in Argentina. Thisis ICANN's 22nd international public meeting and the fourth to be held inLatin America. These meetings constitute an essential part of ICANN's globalconsensus-development and outreach efforts.

ICANN's agenda for open participatory meetings address issues concerning allInternet stakeholders. They include:

  • DNS Security
  • Domain Name Hijacking
  • The World Summit on Information Society
  • Regional At-Large meetings with user groups from across LatinAmerica
  • Whois Policy Development
  • Deployment of Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs)

The public meeting of ICANN's International Board of Directors will takeplace on Friday 8 April. Items that the ICANN Board will review include:

  • AfriNIC Application for Recognition as Regional Internet Registry
  • Corporate Governance Principles and Guidelines
  • IANA Policy For Allocation of IPv4 Blocks to Regional InternetRegistries
  • The Designation of New Sponsored Top-Level Domains (sTLDs)
  • Proposed Change to ICANN Bylaws Regarding New ASO MoU
  • Proposed Change to ICANN Bylaws Regarding Number of GNSO CouncilRepresentatives

ICANN is extremely grateful to CABASE, the hosts for this meeting inArgentina, for all their support and the work going into providing thisvenue in Mar del Plata. Addressing these meetings will be Patricio Seoane,CABASE President, and Arquitecto Daniel Katz, Sr. Intendente de la Ciudad deMar del Plata, who will officially open the ICANN meeting.
