📅 - A Ukrainian hacking group known as Cyber Hunta released over a gigabyte of data taken from the office of Vladislav Surkov, one of Vladmir Putin's top aides. The hacked data includes emails among other sensitive material, which allegedly show proof of Russia's involvement in the Ukrainian separatist movement.

Mark Czuperski, who is in charge of the Digital Forensic Research Lab of the Atlantic Council, searched through the emails and described it as “serious hack.”

The government under the leadership or Vladimir Putin, recently passed a law requiring all companies operating within Russia to store their data locally, and LinkedIn does not do that.

The law was passed in 2012, following the re-election of Putin in the wake of anti-government protests. The threat to shut down LinkedIn is the first test of the law.
