MPAA Says Cloudflare, Foreign Hosting Companies Failing to Protect Against Piracy


📅 - The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) recently announced that foreign web hosting companies like Cloudflare are enabling pirates to violate copyright law and steal content because they do not discriminate between websites that routinely infringe on copyrights and those that do not. The MPAA wants foreign web hosting companies to help hold pirates accountable by reducing the amount of web support they can obtain while infringing on copyrights.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) receives a PDF from the MPAA each year detailing areas of concern for copyright infringement. Here is an excerpt from this year's letter:

“All stakeholders in the internet ecosystem – including hosting providers, cloud (and anonymizing) services, advertising networks, payment processors, social networks, and search engines – should be actively seeking to reduce support for notoriously infringing sites such as those we have nominated in these comments, including through voluntary initiatives aimed at combating online content theft in a balanced and

responsible manner.”

The new offering, Igneous Data Service, provides data storage in the customer's data center. The customer doesn't have to purchase any equipment or install any software.

“Today, when people talk about the private cloud, it usually means customers are still buying hardware, installing software and managing infrastructure,” Kiran Bhageshpur CEO and co-founder recently said. “We think of ourselves as private cloud for real, as true cloud for local data. 📅 - CloudCoreo Raises $2.9 Million in Seed Funding - CloudCoreo, a cloud infrastructure security and management startup, announced recently that they are focusing on locating and hiring qualified software and DevOps engineers. So far, the startup has raised $2.9 million in seed funding, as they announced on Tuesday in a press release.

With the seed funding, CloudCoreo plans to recruit top DevOps and software engineer talent to bring its full cloud stack management service to life. Madrona Venture Group, Divergent Ventures, Aristos Ventures, and the Data Collective (DCVC) participated in the funding round in Seattle.
