Aug, 2016 : Public OpenStack Cloud Launched by QTS Realty Trust


📅 - QTS Realty Trust recently added an OpenStack cloud to the many services they offer. Canonical and QTS will also be building private OpenStack clouds for clients in any of the data centers operated by QTS.

Until this announcement came through, QTS was only a provider of IaaS cloud based on VMware. Now, they are adding OpenStack capabilities to help grow the business and go after a new market of customers.

📅 - Xero Suffers Glitch in Transfer to AWS - Xero, the online accounting service, suffered from a glitch during it's transfer to the companies new cloud-hosting partner, Amazon Web Services. The glitch occurred during the scheduled four-hour outage, which resulted in a longer period offline and disruption to customers.

There are about 500 specialist software applications that have been built on Xero by software partners, and many customers experienced a “degraded” performance, according to Xero spokeswoman Alex Mercer.

Xero also had problems Monday morning resolving an issue that was preventing costomers from logging on to Xero, through Apple's Safari internet browser.

📅 - Wikileaks Released Data on Hundreds of Innocent People - Personal and sensitive data of hundreds of innocent, ordinary people has been released by Wikileaks. Some of those innocent people include children, and rape victims. A report published today by the Associated Press found that Wikileaks published the medical records of “scores” of people, among them are rape victims, children, and the mentally ill.

The AP also states that the transparency group “routinely” publishes identity records and personal phone numbers which can be used by criminals.

📅 - Alphabet’s Project Loon Gets New Leader - Google's Project Loon is hiring a new leader to head up the project. Tom Moore, co-founder of Wildblue Communications Inc., is taking over as a vice president of X, the research division of Google parent company Alphabet Inc.

Project Loon is an effort to launch high altitude balloons into the stratosphere, which will emit broadband internet over remote sections of the world.
