Dec, 2015 : OnlyDomains Bought by CentralNic Ltd. for AUS$33 Million


internetbs.net logo📅 - CentralNic Ltd., a web hosting company recently announced the purchase of domain OnlyDomains, a domain registrar. They paid AUS$33 million or $24 million US for the acquisition.

CentralNic is located in Moorgate, London, UK and provides a number of domain services including SLDs, ccTLDs and a new batch of TLDs including .xyz, .online and .site. They also offer a range of hosting services and the company is traded on the London Stock Exchange.

This marks the second domain registrar CentralNic has acquired. They also bought Internet.bs for $7.5 million in 2014.

According to the research done by Sandvine, Netflix is the leader when it comes to streaming traffic in North America. They account for over 37% of the traffic with YouTube the closes competitor at nearly 18%.

All of the major players in video streaming increased their share of traffic from the last report done by Sandvine. Netflix may be the leader, but Amazon Video, Hulu and YouTube have all grown, as well.

📅 - Net Neutrality Enforcement Defended by the FCC in Federal Court - The United States Telecom Association would like to see the net neutrality order from the FCC reversed. The case was heard in an appeals court last week and the FCC defended their position.

In February of 2015, the FCC reclassified internet services under Title II of the Communications Act. They reclassified these services as telecommunications, which means ISPs may be regulated in a similar was as telephone providers.

Telecom argued that the FCC doesn't have the authority to reclassify mobile and fixed broadband as common carrier services.
