Hetzner to offer Colocation customers greater freedom of choice through DFA fibre offering

hetzner.com logo📅 - Hetzner South Africa's state-of-the-art Data Centre Park in Samrand now offers ECS-licensed customers an even greater choice of internet service providers (ISPs), thanks to the inclusion of DFA's Open Access fibre solution. DFA, which has spent the last eight years financing, building and managing the largest open access fibre network in South Africa, has recently become the latest provider to join Hetzner's carrier-neutral facility. This Data Centre offers a cost-effective colocation service to allow customers to manage their own data from a secure, energy-efficient environment. Boasting eco-friendly cooling technology, fully redundant power infrastructure and high-speed connectivity, Hetzner's Data Centre is fast becoming sought-after by businesses both large and small, particularly in light of current load-shedding.

“Colocation is a natural choice for businesses looking to maintain complete ownership of their data, but who don't have the on-site facilities to guarantee 24/7 uptime,” says Athena Turner, marketing & communications manager for Hetzner South Africa. “Our Data Centre is able to operate without any external power supply, thanks to a world-class emergency power design, comprising generators, UPS systems and a bulk fuel strategy. We also have physically separated A+B feeds, removing the likelihood of any single point of failure, as well as proprietary green technology that allows us to provide natural cooling almost all year round.”

Hetzner South Africa's unique free cooling system, which boasts intelligent airflow to ensure optimal data storage conditions, allows the company to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and remain less reliant on the national grid, with 65% of its annual cooling capacity generated via its free cooling technology.

“Businesses are quickly coming to understand the value of storing their data in purpose-built facilities, using their own trusted service providers and technical staff to maintain control over the process,” says Turner. “Our service offering is unique in that we offer our customers complete flexibility when it comes to managing their servers, and with DFA now onboard, our ECS-licensed customers are afforded even more options,” says Turner.

With the largest Open Access metro fibre footprint in South Africa as well as an unrivalled uptime of 99.95% , DFA is a natural fibre solution provider at Hetzner, South Africa's leading web hosting company.

“The provision of our fibre at Hetzner's Data Centre made sense for us, as its state-of-the-art facility enables us to provide the level of service we're accustomed to offering our clients,” says Tshego Ditshego, DFA's brand and communication executive.

“Today businesses are moving significant volumes of data, either internally or externally to data centres. To improve efficiencies and drive productivity, it is important that these businesses have access to the high speed broadband connectivity that only fibre can deliver,” adds Ditshego.

Established in 2007, DFA has since installed over 8,000km of fibre infrastructure locally, allowing it to offer almost limitless capacity and deliver industry-leading uptime rates. Though widely sought out by large conglomerates and multinationals with large data transmission requirements, it also offers services to small and medium-sized enterprises, enabling businesses to easily scale as needed without incurring unnecessary infrastructural expense.
