Jul, 2014 : Microsoft Under Anti-Monopoly Investigation In China
📅 - China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce has announced that they are conducting an anti-monopoly investigation into Microsoft following the raid of the tech giant's offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu earlier this week.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the SAIC said it was looking into “alleged monopoly actions” regarding the company's Windows operating system and Office Business Suite, Reuters reports.
“Microsoft complies with the laws and regulations of every market in which we operate around the world and we have industry leading monitoring and enforcement mechanisms in place to ensure this,” said Microsoft. “Our business practices in China are designed to be compliant with Chinese law.”
The SAIC noted that Microsoft has been suspected of violating anti-monopoly laws since June 2013, stating that local companies have accused Microsoft for bundling its products for sale and not fully disclosing information about the software.
Additionally, senior managers and a Microsoft vice president are also being investigated.
Recently, the tech giant has been under fire from Chinese media due to security risks from Edward Snowden's government surveillance leaks.
In May government offices in Beijing banned users from installing Windows 8 on new computers after one of its broadcasters reported that the operating system was used to gain information on citizens.
